United Nations Organizations

Any organization with international membership, scope or presence can be called an international organization. The term is commonly reserved for intergovernmental organizations like the United Nations Organizations, Specialized Agencies of the United Nations, International Financial Institutions, Inter-American Organizations, Other Regional Organizations and Other International Organizations. The United Nations Organizations is an international organization which aims at facilitating cooperation in international law, social progress, international security, economic development and human rights issues.

Founded in 1945 to replace the League of Nations, United Nations Organizations aims at restoring peace worldwide and avoid war. It tends to relate to global issues on individual levels rather than systemic and state problems. All the International organizations differ in function, membership and membership criteria. United Nations Organizations comprises 192 United Nations member states that include almost every recognized independent state. The headquarters are located in New York City. It is a golden rectangle building in New York City located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood.

United Nations Organizations is divided into administrative bodies like:

  • The General Assembly
  • The Security Council
  • The Economic and Social Council
  • The Secretariat
  • The International Court of Justice (ICJ)
There are some additional bodies which deal with the governance of all other UN System agencies like the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO). The membership in the United Nations Organizations is open to all the peace-loving states. This organization is financed from measured and voluntary contributions from member states. The Assembly goes by the principle that the UN should not be too much dependent on any one member to finance its operations.

The official languages at United Nations Organizations are Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish and Arabic. Though British usage and Oxford spelling is followed by the UN standard for English language documents (United Nations Editorial Manual).

United Nations General Assembly is the main thoughtful organ of the United Nations. The first session of this academy was convened on 10 January 1946 in the Westminster Central Hall in London. Representatives of 51 nations were present in this assembly. The general Assembly votes on important questions like recommendations on peace and security, election of members to organizations and other budgetary matters. Two-thirds majority of those present and should vote to make it valid. The Assembly may make recommendations on any subject within the range of the UN. While other organs of the United Nations have the right to make recommendations to member governments, the Security Council of the United Nations Organizations has the power to make decisions.

The United Nations Organizations also includes the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) that assists the General Assembly in promoting international economic and social cooperation and development. The International Court of Justice (ICJ), established in 1945 by the United Nations Charter, is located in The Hague in Netherlands. It is the primary judicial organ of the United Nations.
